Redwing 879

After seeing these in person, it’s tempting to pick up another pair in my size – rather than a size 6. I really didn’t have many options when picking out a pair of Redwings for my fiance – so I went with these Redwing 879′s. These are the 8″ version of the Moc-toe’s that you usually see me wearing on Simple Threads. Crafted in a rough-out Hawthorne Muleskinner leather, which is actually the most water repellant leather that Redwings offers. I’m sure it will be a week or so before these take on serious indigo stains. As to be expected from a pair of Redwings: Goodyear welted, Traction Tred crepe sole, durable triple-stitch construction, and of course: Made in the USA.

And what about Yuketens or Alden boots?

  3. Lookin’ good. The blue marks on those things are gonna be mean in a good way.

where did you find these in a size 6? I would also like to get some for my fiance, but am having trouble finding them in smaller than a men’s 7

    • From the Redwings Heritage site. It’s the only Heritage line model that comes in a size 6, unfortunately. You can always go to your local Redwings store, and have them order a pair in from MN. Just bring the model number with you!

      Hope this helps.

      • Just picked up a pair of these fantastic boots. Just wondered how to care for them. I’ve got the suede eraser and brush set from Red Wing but the guy I bought them from said I should protect them with mink oil. I thought mink oil was for smooth leather. How do you protect your suede and rough outs?

      • Jonathan, I would recommend you avoid the mink oil. It’s going to darken the rough out. Just wear them, clean the denim stains off with the suede eraser + water. If they get really dirty, don’t worry. Red Wing uses a nice rough out, you can run these under your sink and scrub them. They will come out looking just fine.

        Enjoy them!

Nice blog you got. Found it while googling for some care instructions to my new 8144. Red Wing Store Berlin also recommends mink oil for rough out but I’m a bit hesitant about it. Maybe I’ll just spray some suede protector them for now.
