In Detail – 2/8/2012

So, it’s pretty obvious that this Engineered Garments work shirt is my go-to, especially this chambray one. Extremely wearable and simple. I seem to always be wearing it on the days I decide to snap some photos for the blog. But seriously, best shirt ever. You will get your money worth and then some. Wash after wash, it just gets better and better. The jacket is a few seasons old, but one of my favorite Woolrich Woolen Pieces that I’ve wanted to track down and finally found for a steal. The fabric on it is a coated ripstop, that is awesome for two reasons: it’s water proof, and it takes on some really great wear patterns due to the rigidness of it. I really dig the stitching on the collar. The reason behind it is to keep the collar sturdy and allow you to flip it up for years to come. The pants are Engineered Garments, and the boots are my Red Wing 8881′s that have finally made it past the break-in period. I’m just noticing how much I’ve been into olive drab lately… but that’s another story. This whole full frame thing is new, and I’m trying my best to get used to it.

Columbia Knit for The Woodlands

The Woodlands consistently keeps their store front filled with amazing brands and quality garments, so just to add another brand to that mix they’ve teamed up with one of the last remaining knit factories in the states to make some really nice knit caps. Exclusive colors that were made specifically for Woodlands, and made in limited numbers. Good news is: we’ve got a handful of them to give away. Since 1921 Columbia Knit has been making all of their product in Oregon, and not cutting corners when it comes to quality or materials. These chunky knits are woven of 100% cotton, and they keep their shape amazingly well – wash after wash. I’ve been wearing the red one since last fall, and it’s been washed 4 or 5 times.

The rules for entering are simple – you’ve gotta do all of the following to be eligible. The newsletters the guys at Woodlands send out are really awesome, and not spam by any means.

We’ll be letting this run over the weekend, and then will pick 5  winners – and then ship the beanies out to you. All 100% paid for by us. Good luck!

Durability Pt. 2

Today was the first day I walked outside and wasn’t instantly reminded how much I dislike Florida’s weather. There was a nice breeze, and no humidity – this is definitely something we do not see a lot of down here, so I took advantage of it. My Columbiaknit x Arch Clothing crewneck has been getting a lot of wear, and will be getting even more here as the weather cools down. The RRL buckle-backs are crafted from a heavy duck canvas and put together extremely well with a straight leg fit. I’ve been trying switch out my jeans every now and then, so these get some wear – and to keep it different. Red Wing work oxfords… what more can I say? It took me forever to track these down in my size, and I could not be happier with them.

Columbiaknit for Archival Clothing

Sometimes the most simple garments are the ones that look the best, the ones that can be worn day after day, rain or shine, summer or winter – there’s a reason they’re timeless. Archival Clothing worked with one of the last remaining companies creating knitwear in the United States, Columbiaknit - to revisit an essential wardrobe staple, the crew neck sweatshirt. Altering it with a modernized fit that isn’t too slim, but still fitted enough to be worn by itself, or layered. Made of an 8-9oz mid-weight terry cloth, it is amazingly comfortable and already feels like you’ve been wearing it for the last five years. The construction is top-notch: rib V insert at the neck, chain-stitched neck & waist ribbing and a cover stitch along the sleeves which makes them fall perfectly on the arms… a lot of sweatshirts have that awkward “bunched up” look – this one does not. They’re available in limited quantities over at the Archival Clothing web store in two different colors: smokey grey & chevron stripe. If they’re out of your size, don’t worry – they’ll be restocked shortly. If you’re impatient, my buddy Jason has these available over at Wilderness Workshop.
